The CCTV cameras we commonly see on the streets are outdoor products—durable, waterproof, and typically made of metal.
We worked on a project involving a CCTV unit mounted on utility poles. The process included idea sketches, 3D modeling, and 3D rendering, which were delivered to the client.
There were numerous revisions, resulting in multiple rounds of rendering. One of the biggest challenges was reducing the number of parts while maintaining a distinct design.
While it would be ideal to differentiate solely through form, design is not just about shape. True product differentiation involves every aspect of the design, and aligning it with the client's preferences is never easy. Disagreements with clients are common, and the most sensitive issue is often cost.
The most difficult situation is dealing with clients who expect a lot with a limited budget. This can significantly dampen a designer’s motivation, making it harder to deliver quality outcomes.
On the other hand, the best clients are those who understand product design, clearly define the scope of work, and respect the designer’s ideas. These clients provide the foundation for great design and innovation, enabling meaningful differentiation.
